Summary Michigan Technological University is seeking a motivated, charismatic, and dedicated Assistant Hockey Coach who is committed to the success of student-athletes and building a competitive hockey program. This position will support the Head Hockey Coach in leading the NCAA Division I varsity program, with a primary focus on goaltenders. Key responsibilities include recruiting high-quality student-athletes, preparing for practices and games, and implementing coaching strategies. Additional duties may be assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director. The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively within the Athletic Department and serve as a leader in promoting and enhancing the visibility and reputation of the Michigan Tech hockey program. Responsibilities and Essential Duties 1. Assist in all aspects of the recruiting program. 2. Identify and recruit hockey student-athletes on a national and international basis. 3. Effectively lead, motivate, and inspire our Hockey Student-Athletes: develop student-athletes athletically, academically, personally and as leaders; foster accountability, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture. 4. Develop and implement hockey practice sessions, to meet needs for individual and team improvement, growth and development from the first year through the fourth year are of highest importance. This includes knowledge of overall movement, response, and adaptation to exercise to determine how to best train our hockey student-athletes. 5. Evaluate Michigan Tech and opposing team capabilities to determine game strategy and manage/prepare for competition; Determine strategy during games in consultation with Head Hockey Coach.6. Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to alumni, community, campus and off-campus groups. 7. Actively participate in fundraising activities and alumni activities. 8. Monitor and promote the academic success of hockey student-athletes. 9. Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Head Hockey Coach. 10. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in the University's continuous improvement initiatives. 11. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. Required Education, Certifications, Licensures ● Bachelor’s Degree Required Experience ● Minimum of 1 year experience playing or coaching at the tier 1 junior level, NCAA, or professional level and/or 3 years playing at these levels. ● Experience in Summer Hockey School organization and implementation. ● Significant relatable experience in player development with regard to on-ice individual and tactical skill sets. ● Experience and aptitude for Hockey Analytics, including spreadsheet experience, creating and streamlining reports. ● Advanced experience with Microsoft Office. Desirable Education and/or Experience ● Goalie Coaching Experience at the tier 1 junior level, NCAA, or professional level. ● Experience and familiarity using XOS (Catapult) Thunder Software, sport logic, sport code, or equivalent video editing software concepts. The final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
