Summary

The case manager serves students with disabilities by determining appropriate academic accommodations. This position supports students by assisting them in identifying on and off campus resources, developing their ability to advocate for oneself, and navigating a rigorous academic community.

Responsibilities 

● Determine appropriate academic accommodations based on documentation provided by an established healthcare provider.
● Assists students with disabilities through various university processes and procedures as appropriate.
● Assists students with disabilities in connecting with on and off campus resources.
● Respond to inquiries and concerns from parents/guardians while abiding by FERPA
● Maintain excellent records through case management software
● Routinely provide student outreach to identified students who may benefit from accommodations
● Be an advocate for students with documented and undocumented disabilities
● Collaborate with Coordinator for workshops and other informational sessions for the campus community on accommodations
● Collaborate with Coordinator to determine appropriate on and off campus resources and partnerships for students with disabilities
● Coordinate with the testing center, faculty, and other staff to assist students with disabilities in utilizing their appropriate accommodations
● Serve as an active member of University, divisional and/or departmental committees and working groups.
● Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
● Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

● Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, education, or other related field

Required Experience

● Two years of experience with student disability support; either in the k-12 or higher education setting
● Two years of experience supporting students with learning disabilities and physical mobility issues.
● Experience with case management platforms

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Masters degree in related field
● Experience in a STEM focused educational setting
● Membership with Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD)
● Experience reviewing medical, psychological, and other appropriate documentation for accommodations
● At least one year experience with disability support at the collegiate level

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

● Demonstrated understanding of FERPA
● Demonstrated understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American Disabilities Act Amended (ADAA)
● Knowledge of neurodiversity and learning differences among college students
● Knowledge of how to support diverse learning styles and learners
● Evidence of a commitment to enhancing diversity.
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
● Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
● Demonstrated ability to build relationships.
● Proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.
● Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

● Demonstrated understanding of student development theory and a commitment to student success.

● Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
