The Human Resources (HR) Generalist provides support for a range of HR functions across all university departments. Their work is focused on employee relations efforts that balance the needs of employees with strategic direction and providing best-practice programs and services, aligned with the needs of a premier technological research university of international stature. The HR Generalist will coordinate a wide variety of services, policies and programs representing all functional areas of the HR department, which are designed to assist, support, train, and develop a superior workforce at Michigan Tech. The HR Generalist will focus on processes and programs, providing quality customer service to all in the department and on campus.
Research Technician or Research Engineer; Assistant, Associate, or Senior Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC) at Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) seeks to create, support, expand, and accelerate research activities in translational research. The GLRC is a flagship Center of Excellence integrating faculty and professional researchers in multidisciplinary research collaborations to address critical challenges facing society. The Center provides a full spectrum of research services, currently to more than 70 affiliated researchers from eighteen academic and non-academic units across campus, with annual research expenditures approaching $10M. The GLRC is seeking a research technician or research engineer to join our organization to facilitate engineering design, instrumentation, and data acquisition; and apply mechanical and electrical engineering, computer programming, embedded systems, sensors, and controls to on-going and new research initiatives. Ideal candidates will have at least a BS in mechanical or electrical engineering or a combination of experience and a BS in a related field; have education or experience in translational research and/or commercialization; and must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Laboratory Technician Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
Michigan Technological University is seeking a lab technician to further research related to environmental biotechnology. A Lab Technician will undertake a variety of laboratory procedures of technical nature. The technician will be handling sensitive microbiological and biochemical equipment to analyze samples or substances and report findings to researchers. The technician will assist in projects related to waste upcycling, environmental biotechnology, and microbial community engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience in microbiology, molecular biology, and be knowledgeable in standard biochemical techniques. The candidate will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions and will be passionate for doing work that makes things move forward. The goal is to optimize lab procedures and succeed in producing and documenting reliable and important results that can be used to advance science. Secondary to laboratory procedures, some time will be spent on administrative activities, including ordering, maintaining safety training records, and other record keeping. Some supervision of students may occur.
